Cell phones are an important part of our lives, and many people like to keep their phones protected with a case. There are all kinds of case manufacturers out there vying for your attention. What does the Incipio DualPro Nexus 6P case bring to the table? In this review I’ll talk about one option to protect your shiny new Huawei Nexus 6P. Keep reading to see why the Incipio DualPro Nexus 6P case earned a spot in our Top Picks of 2016.
Design
The Incipio DualPro Nexus 6P case is currently available in black, and there is very minimal branding on the back. The “Dual” portion of the name refers to the two layers of protection provided by this case. The inner layer is a dLAST™ TPE cover that helps absorb shock in case of a fall. The outer Plextonium™ polycarbonate layer creates a hard shell to further absorb impact and protect your device from scratches.
The two pieces fit together with a very tight grip to keep your device protected. The outer layer has a soft touch exterior that is pleasant to hold, though still provides plenty of grip to keep your phone securely in your hand. The case has the obvious cut out areas for the USB-C port on the bottom, the headphone jack on top, as well as the Nexus Imprint fingerprint scanner. The Incipio case also has a cut out for the entire back glass for the camera, which not all 6P cases seem to include. Otherwise the inner layer includes the covers for your power and volume buttons and the top layer locks in place around that area.
The cut out areas for the USB-C plug and headphone jack both provide adequate space to plug in the applicable cables. The power button cover has a bit of texture to it making it easier to differentiate from the volume buttons. The area around the fingerprint scanner adds just a little bit extra depth to the scanner, but it’s still very easy to get Nexus Imprint to recognize your fingerprint. It’s just slightly different than using the phone without a case, but equally easy. The upper cut out for the entire camera glass as well as the entire front of the case includes an extra bit of material to keep the glass areas off of your desk or table. I particularly liked having a bit of extra cushioning around the camera glass, since without a case I sometimes felt that I had to be especially careful.
Installation
Installation is quick and easy, even for someone like me who has never had a case on their phone before (I just try to be very careful). The inner layer wraps around the entirety of the phone, providing a soft padded layer. It’s best to start putting the inner layer on over the power and volume buttons and then working your way around the rest of the phone. This layer is just very slightly loose on the phone, and you obviously won’t want to use only the inner layer without the outer layer. Once that has been installed, the outer layer basically clips into place, holding the inner layer down.
The layers are machined perfectly, leaving almost no seam where the pieces meet. If you’re planning on keeping your case on all the time this is exactly what you want. I had just a little bit of trouble getting the case off when I occasionally wanted to check on my phone, but nothing that was insurmountable. And honestly, you don’t want a case that’s just going to fall off of your device anyway.
Protection
Incipio claims excellent drop protection with this case, and while I can’t really throw my phone around to test these claims, the DualPro case does feel as though it would add some good protection. The raised areas around the screen and back camera glass that I mentioned earlier do both provide great protection for the glass, keeping it up off of surfaces.
The case does add a little bit of weight and bulk to your Nexus 6P, though it does also make the phone a bit easier to hold and use. The soft touch back does have more grip than the metal exterior of the phone, making it easier to keep in your hand too. The 6P can be a bit slick on its own. My only very minor complaint is that dust and other debris collects very easily along the back glass. For the most part you can simply wipe it away, though it isn’t a bad idea to occasionally remove the case to clear away any remaining dust.
Price/Value
Priced at $29.99, the Incipio DualPro Nexus 6P case is very reasonably priced. You’re getting a quality case that provides good protection with very little added weight and bulk.
Wrap Up
If you’re looking for a case for your shiny new Nexus 6P, you should definitely give Incipio a look. The DualPro case gives you scratch and impact protection in a stylish minimal package. The Nexus 6P is already a very big phone, and the Incipio DualPro case adds protection without adding too much bulk.
