Design
Projectors tend to not have very radical designs and the Acer H6502BD is certainly not radical at all. The design is subtle and pretty plain but the build quality is solid and robust. Around the front, you’ll find the projector lens with its snap-on lens cover that is secured with a small string so you don’t lose it. The remote sensor is also located on the front of the projector along with vents for keeping things cool.
Along the left and right sides of the projector, you’ll find even more vents for keeping things cool as the lamp inside can generate a fair amount of heat. On the bottom, you’ll find the mount for placing the projector on a tripod or other 3/4 threaded mount system as well as adjustable feet.
On the back are all your available ports which include the following:

On the top of the H6502BD, you’ll find the Acer branding and the access to the focus ring for manual focusing your picture. There are also three LED lights which indicate power, temperature, and lamp status. You will also find the power button, menu button, source button, mode button, resync button, and navigation buttons.
Overall the design is pretty standard when it comes to projectors but projectors are made to present the show not be the show, it’s a solid build quality and I think that matters more than looks.
Display
The H6502BD outputs its image at a full 1920×1080 HD native resolution which is outstanding. The aspect ration is 16:9 and you can get up to 300 inches of coverage with this thing. As we mentioned before, projectors have traditionally been used in business and education environments to show documents and short presentations. The output on the HD6502BD is excellent for viewing those types of presentations and documents.
While projectors have been used in business and education for a long while, they’ve definitely become even more popular for home entertainment. This is how we tested the HD6502BD, primarily for content consumption. The 1080p output was very crisp against the wall and the colors popped with deep blacks and rich whites. Focus was excellent and I’d even say this looked much nicer than our 60″ Samsung LED HDTV in so many ways. Overall the display and picture produced here are top notch and for the $699USD price, it’s pretty solid.
Speakers/Sound
The last Acer projector we reviewed we felt the speakers were weak and severely lacking in performance. This is still basically true with the H6502BD when you’re consuming media like movies, gaming, and TV. The onboard speakers are very good and acceptable for voice and presentations in a business or education environment. If you plan on using this for entertainment purposes — which is what we used it for — then an external speaker source is a must.
Performance
The H6502BD performed really well and the picture it produced was vibrant, crisp and contrasty. The projector does ramp up the fans when it starts to get warm so you may want to keep that in mind.
Price/Value
Native resolution output of 1080p at a $699USD price point is really a great deal. Keep in mind, projector lamps will have to be replaced at some point and that can get costly. We haven’t had the projector long enough to test out the lamp life so we can’t speak to that, but it’s something to keep in mind. Based on an average lamp life of 3,500 hours in regular mode, you should be looking at at least two to three years of use before requiring a bulb change, and that would be based on using the projector for 4 hours a day, every day.

If you’ve always wanted to try a projector for home entertainment, you can’t go wrong with the Acer H6502BD and at the very least, it should be one you consider.
