It’s only been a short time since Microsoft announced its financial backing of the AI engine chatGPT. Shortly after making its investment into ChatGPT known, Microsoft announced its integration into Bing. The new Bing AI has been in the news lately, and not for good reasons. Some of the replies and interactions users have gotten from Bing AI are downright strange.

Now, it seems Microsoft is unhappy with keeping Bing AI within a search engine. The company has announced that the Bing AI taskbar will come as a free update to Windows 11, rolling out starting today. Microsoft believes integrating AI with its Windows 11 operating system will make it easier to use for consumers.
Microsoft claims that the search box is one of the most widely used features on Windows 11, and adding the power of AI to the search feature will enhance the user experience. If you already use the Bing AI feature in the search engine, updating your Windows 11 operating system should install it on your taskbar. If you are still waiting to be let into the AI program, you’ll need to wait until you are in for the feature to update your system.
We’ve been inspired by people’s stories of how they are using the new Bing. For example, a first-generation grad student from a developing country shared how the new Bing gives him access to information and resources that were previously inaccessible and difficult to find. Stories like these energize and inspire us. With the new Bing in the Windows taskbar, you will be more empowered to harness the world’s information.
For me personally, this technology is having incredible impact on how my kids, and I communicate with my dad, their grandfather, in Greek. It’s important for us to stay connected to where we’re from, including speaking the language, and with the new Bing chat experience we can learn and practice writing and speaking in Greek with my dad. It’s inspiring and changing the way we communicate and connect in ways we never imagined.

Our Senior Editor, Jason Bouwmeester, got the update this morning and unfortunately, you cannot opt out of the AI-powered search on Windows 11 after the update is installed. While you can change the Search Box views, regardless of which you choose, the AI Bing functionality appears whenever the search bar is expanded. Sure, you can choose to not install the update (KB5022913 for the record), but then you’ll also be missing out on a bunch of other new features as this is Microsoft’s Moment 2 update for Windows 11.
