When Netflix slowly started announcing the cancellation of its Marvel shows which included Daredevil and The Punisher, many fans were understandably upset. To make matters worse, Disney confirmed those shows weren’t being picked up for the new Disney+ streaming service as Netflix holds the rights until 2020.
However, it appears there is some hope on the horizon likely due, in part, to those rights expiring and also to Kevin Feige being promoted to Chief Creative Officer at Marvel. Sources told We Got This Covered that Feige wants to reboot every Marvel TV series, included those on Netflix, as well as Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Runaways.
The Marvel TV offerings were always in a weird spot in the greater MCU. The really didn’t tie into any of the movies aside from a few brief cameos or the odd mention of movie events. With Disney+ bringing a number of new shows to the streaming service and committing to them having an impact on and lead into upcoming movies, it only makes sense to reboot the old shows.
The sources also mentioned that Feige wants Charlie Cox to continue on as Daredevil and Jon Bernthal as the Punisher. With their shows rendered “non-canon,” however, they will be starting fresh in those roles although viewers will already be familiar with them. Currently, there’s no word on what other actors Feige might be interested in reprising their roles but rumour has it many of them will be recast.
What do you think about the news that Cox and Bernthal could return as Daredevil and the Punisher in the larger MCU? What other actors would you like see reprise their Marvel TV series roles? As with anything, rumours are rumours until confirmed by Marvel or Disney, but here’s hoping! Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter, Facebook, or MeWe.
