Hydration is a very important part of life, considering the human body is around 60% water. If we didn’t have water, we would cease to exist, as would pretty much all life. Design
There’s not much to say about the design of the Seidio Smart Bottle, it looks like any other water bottle on the market. It has a 17.3oz capacity and comes in either black or white.
The top of the bottle serves as the main display and the place where you will see the temps and notifications. The display is also touch-sensitive so you can interact with it as needed.
The whole bottle is made of stainless steel and is of high-quality with the materials feeling very premium. The top feels robust enough though I’m not sure how well the display would fare with a direct hit to the ground. The nice thing is that the display isn’t very large, so I don’t think you have to worry about it getting damaged.
The included velvet type carrying bag is nice but I’m not sure it’s entirely needed. The charging puck is also nice, but it is proprietary and you need to remove the waterproof ring around the lid to access the charging pins. I think a better method for charging could have been devised.
Overall, this is a basic water bottle design, save the display on the top. I’m not fond of the charging puck and the method it needs to charge, but it’s not the end of the world.
Ease of Use
The beauty of the Seidio Smart Bottle is that there is no smartphone app that controls this. It’s very basic and easy to use, which is exactly how it should be. The display on the top of the lid is square. You don’t actually touch the display but use the areas around it to make it work.
The display will show you the current temperature of the liquid inside the bottle and it will have a light ring around it as well. The light ring will be green when the liquid is 0-97-degrees, orange when the liquid is 99-140-degrees, and red when the liquid is 142-degrees or hotter.
The only other thing you can do with the display is set the timer function. Just tapping twice on the area outside the display will turn the timer function on. Once the timer function is on, it will beep every two-hours to remind you to drink. Just touch the lid to turn the beep off and take your drink(s).
The timer function automatically cancels after 10-hours, if you need to cancel it before that you can just tap the area outside the display twice and it will turn the timer off.
That’s all there is to using the Seidio Smart Bottle, it’s really very easy. Overall, I think the simplicity of use is what might attract some users to this bottle. It gives you the temperature of the liquid inside and it allows you to set a timer so you can drink every few hours.
Performance
The Seidio Smart Bottle does a great job of keeping liquids cold or hot without an issue. The insulated stainless steel works just as it should and just as other bottles like it do. Overall, the performance is what it should be.
Battery Life
The Seidio Smart Bottle gets 120 days of battery and only takes 1.5 hours to charge. That’s pretty outstanding battery life, and even though I dislike the charging method, it’s not like it needs to be charged every night.
Price/Value
Priced at US$39.95 the Seidio Smart Bottle isn’t that much more than a regular premium water bottle. You can even find it on Amazon for almost US$5 cheaper at US$35.00 not to mention it seems Sedio doesn’t have them in stock on their site. As I said at the start of this review, it will depend on the person to determine the value here. I don’t think that this is for everyone but some might find it very handy to help keep hydrated.
Wrap Up
In the end, the Seidio Smart Bottle isn’t going to make you drink more water, that’s still up to you. You still need some sort of will power to be able to follow through in drinking the water when it reminds you to. I think it could be a great tool for some to keep hydrated but not for everyone.
